Captain Eugene J. Fleming
Captain Eugene J. Fleming served the 20th at KingsCliffe in England. Our records show he was with the 77th in Army Air Corps from 1942-46. He passed away in September 2016, at the age of 94. His passing was only just recently discovered.

Brigadier General Graham "Eddy" Shirley
Commander 20th Technical Fighter Wing 1986-1988 at Upper Heyford, England. Eddy had been a member of the 20th Fighter Wing Association since 1993. He passed away in October 2021.

Captain Robert "Bob" Zender
Captain Robert "Bob" Zender. Bob served the 20th TFW from 1961-1964 and was in the 79th TFS at Woodbridge flying the F100. He was a long-time member of the association and will be missed. Bob passed away at home and is survived by his wife Anna and daughter Missi Zender-Sakach. They reside in Ohio. He passed away in November 2021. Posted November 2021

Mrs. Linda Chartrand
Linda Chartrand was the wife of association member Roger Chartrand who was stationed at Wethersfield in the early 60s. She was an active volunteer at the Wethersfield Airfield Museum and had been at Rogers's side for over 55 years. She passed away on 25 November 2021.

Lieutenant Colonel Philip V. Lowenthal
LtCol Philip V. Lowenthal served the 20th TFW from 1971-1975 and was in the 77thTFS at Upper Heyford, England flying the F111. Phil was a long-time member of the Association and will be missed. He was a good friend to many and loved a good round of golf. He passed away on 30 July 2021.

Lieutenant Colonel Alroy A. Aman
Lt Col Alroy A. Aman served the 20th TFW from 1972-1976 and was in the 79TFS at Upper Heyford, England flying the F111. Al served as President of the 20th Fighter Wing Association from 2017-2021 and oversaw two successful Reunions. Al passed away at home on Christmas Day 2021 and was 81 years old.

He is survived by his long-time wife Val who resides in Missoula, MT. He will be missed.

Major (Ret) Will Clayton Hendrix
Major Will Clayton Hendrix served the 20th TFW from 1962-1964 and was in the 79th TFS at Woodbridge, England flying the F100. Will passed away on 17 January 2022 and was 86 years old.

He is survived by his wife JoAnne and resided in Austin, Texas. Will was a long-time member and supporter of the association.

Kathleen Long

Kathleen Long was the Dear Wife of long-time association member Colonel (Ret) John Long. She will be remembered as a vibrant member of the F-111 community having been image with John at Nellis, Takhli, Cannon, Upper Heyford, and back to Cannon. She fought a valiant battle with cancer for two years, but a cure could not be found. image Kathleen passed peacefully at home surrounded by family on 19 January 2022. According to her wish, there will be a private funeral mass. The inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery.

Major General William "Bill K. James
Major General William "Bill" K. James was Commander of the 55th TFS at Upper Heyford from 1975-1977 and flew the F-111.

Bill passed away on 12 January 2022 and was 87 years old. He resided at Marshall, VA 20115.

Bill was a past member and supporter of the association. His name will be posted on our websites Fallen Hero's page.

Lieutenant Colonel (Ret) Michael J. Harrington was a past member of the 20th TFW, the 79TFS at Upper Heyford, and flew the F-111. He passed away on 12 January 2022 and was 65 years old.

Colonel (Ret) Sergi L. Demchuk

Colonel Sergi L. Demchuk served the 20th TFW at Wethersfield between 1967-1969 and was assigned to the 55th TFS. He flew the F100. Sergi passed away on 12 January 2022 and was 86 years old.

He is survived by his sons Peter, Tom, and David and their families.

Sergi was a long-time supporter of the association and resided in Virginia Beach, VA

Colonel (Ret) Leslie "Bobby" R. Drane
Colonel (Ret) Leslie "Bobby" R. Drane. He spent 28 years in the Air Force and was a member of the 55th TFS at Wethersfield from 1962-1965. He flew the F-100 and amassed 260 combat missions in Vietnam. Bobby passed away on 11 January 2022 and was 85 years old. Bobby was a long-time supporter of the association. He is survived by his wife Telie and resided in Marietta, GA

Colonel (Ret) John R Long served the 20th TFW at Upper Heyford from 1986-1990 and was assigned to the 55th TFS and flew the F111. John passed away on 21 February 2022 and was 79 years old. He is survived by his sons Kevin and Ryan, and David and their families. John was a long-time supporter of the association and resided in Alexandria VA.

Staff Sergeant Peter Carnute

Staff Sergeant Peter Carnute served the 20th TFW at Wethersfield from1955-1959 and was assigned to the 55th TFS Maintenance Team supporting the F-100.

Peter passed away on 10 January 2022 and was 86 years old.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley, who stated "Peter was very proud of his military service and having been part of the 55th TFS".

Peter was a long-time member and supporter of the association and resided in Queen Creed AZ.

Lieutenant Colonel (Ret) Robert E Schmid
Lieutenant Colonel (Ret) Robert E Schmid served the 20th TFW at Upper Heyford from 1971-1974 and was assigned to the 77TFS flying the F111.

Bob passed away on 13 September 2021 and was 86 years old.

He was a supporter of the Association and is survived by his wife Barbara who resides at 1203 Chestnut Ridge Road, Kingswood TX 77339.

Betty Shofner

Betty Shofner was the wife of Col Robert W "Nub" Shofner who passed away in August 2013. They served at Wethersfield from 1958-1962 in the 55th TFS and flew the F-100. Betty loved music and was active in many base Musical Ministries. Nub and Betty were long-time supporters of the association and will be missed. She passed away in January 2022 and was 88 years old.

Colonel (Ret) Michael R. Cook

Colonel (Ret) Michael R. Cook served the 20th Fighter Wing At Shaw Air Force Base as Assistant Operations Officer, 79th Fighter Squadron; Flight Commander, 20th Operations Support Squadron; and Operations Officer, 78th Fighter Squadron. In May 1996 he assumed Command of the 77th Fighter Squadron. In January 1998 he became Deputy Commander, of the 20th Operations Group. Mike passed away on 31 July 2022 and was 76 years old. He was a member and supporter of the 20th Fighter Wing Association.

Colonel (Ret) John Franklin Lewis

Colonel (Ret) John Franklin Lewis served the 20th Fighter Wing as a member of the 55th Squadron at Wethersfield from 1965-67. He was a previous member of the Association and served his country with honor.

John was 86 years of age.

Brigadier General Richard Browing

Brigadier General Richard Browing served the United States Air Force in many capacities One of which was the 474th Tactical Fighter Wing, Wing Maintenance Control Officer, and Commander of the Organizational Maintenance Squadron. He was an Associate member of the 20th Fighter Wing Association at the time of his passing. He will be remembered by many and was 81 years old.

Major General (Ret) James (Bill) Hyatt
MGen (Ret) James (Bill) Hyatt served the 20th Fighter Wing at Shaw Air Force Base as Commander of the 79 Fighter Squadron during 1997-1998. He dedicated 33 years of his life to his country and the United States Air Force. Bill passed away on 4 March 2023 and was 64 years old. He had been a member and supporter of the 20th Fighter Wing Association.

Lynn Latimer Pahl
Lynn Pahl was the wife of Col (Ret) Robert "Bob" Pahl. Lynn passed away peacefully in Acworth, GA on October 18, 2022, with her family by her side. Bob and Lynn have supported the association for many years, and she will be missed. Lynn was 75 years old.

Captain Melvin Christopher Pannell
Captain Melvin Christopher Pannell served in World War II as a fighter pilot in the European Theater of Operations with the 8th Army Air Force, 20th Fighter Group, flying P-38s and P-5ls. Chris flew 74 combat missions, including the first American missions over Berlin and in support of the invasion of Europe at Normandy. He was original member of the 20th Fighter Group and later the 20th Fighter Wing Association. He was 97 years and passed away on 2 June 2020.

Eugenia "Jeannie" Pannell
 
Eugenia "Jeannie" Pannell passed away peacefully at home July 1, 2022. Jeannie was born December 17, 1921, to John Buford and Edith Ellen Johnson Duff. She attended Old Knoxville High and the University of Tennessee. She enjoyed several years of employment with Tennessee Valley Authority. At the end of WWII, she married "her hero," best friend, and high school sweetheart, Captain Melvin Christopher Pannell upon his return from a fighter pilot tour in German-occupied Europe. They enjoyed 74 years of marriage before his death in 2020. She was a Life member of the Association and was 101 years old.

1st Lieutenant Albert Gese
 
1st Lieutenant Albert Gese was a P-38 pilot in the 77th during WW2 and was part of the initial cadre of the 20th that deployed to the UK in Aug 1943. He was shot down on 12 Jun 1944 by ground file while strafing a German convoy. He successfully evaded capture and returned to allied line in Aug 1944. He was a long time member of the 20th Fighter Group association and the 20th Fighter Wing Association. He passed away on April 26 2022 and was 102 years old.

Colonel Percy D. Leonard (retired)
 
Colonel Percy D. Leonard served the US Air Force in many capacities during his Air Force career. One of which was his assignment to RAF Upper Heyford from 1968-1971. "PD" was assigned to the 55th and 77th Fighter Squadron's and flew the F-100. He was a longtime member of the 20 Fighter Wing Association (FWA) and was 81 years old. He will be missed by all. His name will be entered into the Associations Fallen Hero's List and honored at the next Association Reunion.

Lieutenant Colonel Gorden M. Amsler (retired)
 
Lieutenant Colonel Gordon M. Amsler served the United States Air Force in many capacities and was assigned to the 374th/474th Tactical Fighter Wings at Nellis Air Force Base and Takhli Air Base in Thailand during the period of 1971-1974. "Gordo" flew the F-111 and was 89 years old. He was an Associate member of the 20th Fighter Wing Association, and he will be missed. His name will be entered into the Associations Fallen Hero's List and will be honored at the next Association Reunion.
